About Our Veggies
Ever since the Carrboro Farmers’ Market expanded their market season to “year-round”, we have worked to broaden our crop offerings.
In central North Carolina it is possible to harvest field-grown crops most of the year. We added a number of winter-grown crops along with several storage vegetables in the recent years.
Our favorite vegetable crops fall into several categories each with their specific seasons. Salad and cooking greens like arugula, lettuce, kale and collards are important during the cooler months. Solanaceae vegetables like potatoes and peppers are major crops in the summer and early fall. Garlic, especially juvenile “green garlic”, provides early spring goodness.
